Equine Pilates Workshop

Lovely Kelly Mitchell came and held a workshop yesterday.

Me with Danza, Heather with Quito and Karen with Eeyore participated.

We started by walking the horses round the arena, presenting ourselves and our horses and get a introduction of what to expect of the session by Kelly.

First we did stretches with front and back legs.

We got shown and talked through what to do and look for by Kelly and then we tried it ourselves.

We then did some work on their back, shoulders and to help lift their tummies. Sadly I don’t have photos of this bit, but I do have video so I will share a link to my vlog in the end of this post.

We then proceeded to do neck stretches which I think was the horses favourite exercises seeing how they got carrots.

The down towards the outside of their front legs was new for me, never done that before. Also never asked them to stretch round my body so that was a slightly different version of the neck stretch. Obviously we ended it with a bow! Which Quito was amazing at!

Even though I knew many of these before, it definitely furthered my knowledge and left enthused to do it more regularly, exactly like a session should leave you;Hungry for more!!

Danza behaved beautifully, was so calm and did all exercises very well. So pleased with her. I think it was really good to just take her in to the arena and do something like this to show her the arena is a place you also can relax and enjoy, and boy did she!

Thanks to Jo who photographed and videoed for me.

A big thank you to Kelly, very sweet and kind lady with a passion to help people and horses improve! I would definitely recommend her! And book her again myself.

And with that I said-

Do you stretch your horses from the ground?

How often do you do it?

Why do you do it?

Can you notice a difference?

Happy Stretching 😍

Take Care

  1. I always do carrot motivated stretches at the end of every ride. I do the side back to the hip, then a lower one similar to the carrot stretch in photos 5 and 6. Then I do the between the legs and then one with the carrot at the base of his neck so he has to really bend the neck and bring his nose in to his chest. He is pretty good at doing it now and i think it does help a lot.
